The standard Ergotron LX is worth considering when a compatible monitor needs frequent repositioning and the desk provides a suitable mounting surface. Its load range has a lower limit as well as an upper limit. A light portable screen is not automatically a better match simply because it sits well below the maximum.

This buying review focuses on the matte-black 45-241-224 package. We checked Ergotron’s model sheets and current installation guide and the matching standard-LX Amazon offer on 30 September 2026. We have not tested drift, tabletop damage, long-term joint wear or assembly time. Our fit worksheet is a pre-purchase check, not a guarantee of installation safety.

Match the part, not just the LX name

Ergotron’s LX product sheet distinguishes the standard two-piece-clamp, low-profile-clamp and tall-pole packages. It lists 45-241-224 with an arm, extension, base, 20 cm pole, two-piece clamp, grommet mount and attachment hardware.

Those inclusions are not universal across LX colours or configurations. For example, the sheet’s standard white package lists a different supplied-mount combination. A tall-pole kit, arm sold without a clamp or newer LX Pro listing should not inherit this black package’s description.

The manufacturer’s mount-package comparison reinforces the part-specific differences. Read the exact seller’s inclusion list, especially for used or open-box stock. An inexpensive incomplete arm can require additional mounting parts before it becomes usable.

Minimum load, maximum load and VESA fit

The standard LX sheet specifies 7–25 lb, approximately 3.2–11.3 kg, and VESA 75 × 75 or 100 × 100 mm patterns. Use the monitor’s mounted weight without its original stand, plus any attached accessories that add load. Do not use the boxed shipping weight.

VESA fit is a separate gate. Confirm the actual hole pattern, recessed-mount clearance and screw requirements specified by the monitor manufacturer. A compatible diagonal screen size does not prove that the mounting interface fits.

The listed typical screen size is up to 34 inches, but dimensions and load are the meaningful constraints. Deep curved screens and unusual weight distribution deserve an exact compatibility check. Do not transfer the LX Pro’s advertised load figures to this standard LX.

Check Record before buying Stop or investigate when
Mounted monitor load Screen without stand plus attached load Outside the stated range
Mounting interface VESA spacing, recess and approved screws No compatible interface or unclear adapter approval
Desktop structure Material, thickness and manufacturer restrictions Unsupported surface or uncertain clamping strength
Underside clearance Clamp space around rails, tray and frame Hardware cannot seat as documented
Movement space Wall gap and swept area in intended positions Arm or screen meets an obstruction
Cable path Slack through arm and desk movement Connectors take tension at an extreme position

A standing desk adds a second movement system

The arm moves relative to the desktop. The desk itself moves relative to the room. Your cable route must accommodate both. A cable that reaches at seated height may pull tight when the desk rises or the display swings outward.

Use our mount-type guide to decide whether a clamp or grommet is appropriate before selecting this arm. A through-hole mount still needs suitable tabletop structure; it is not an automatic fix for a weak surface.

The LX sheet lists 33 cm of lift and up to 64 cm of extension. Those figures describe arm movement, not a universal screen-top height or required wall clearance. Monitor height, VESA position and arm geometry determine where the visible screen ends up. Our eye-level positioning guide helps define the desired position first.

Installation and tension are part of ownership

Read the current LX installation guide before ordering. It covers mounting, monitor attachment, routing and adjustments. Follow the provided order, support the display during adjustment and observe the stated load limits. Do not compensate for an incompatible load or weak desk by improvising hardware.

An adjustable arm must be set for the attached monitor. If it drifts, reassess the load, adjustment procedure and cable tension instead of treating every movement as a defective arm. Conversely, do not assume tightening a joint indefinitely is a safe solution.

The monitor-placement guide keeps a suitable existing stand as an alternative. If your screen already occupies a useful, stable position and surface space is adequate, an arm can add cost and installation without solving a real problem.

Compare the complete package

Price the exact arm, any manufacturer-approved hardware or adapter required for your monitor, and any installation help needed for the desk. Check the seller’s warranty and return conditions rather than treat a manufacturer’s general warranty headline as proof of coverage for every marketplace offer.

Check the standard matte-black Ergotron LX on Amazon. Verify the selected standard-LX package, supplied mounts, condition and seller. Price and availability vary.

Buy when all three interfaces fit: monitor to plate, arm to mounting hardware, and mount to desktop. Skip when the existing stand solves the position or compatibility remains uncertain. Paying for adjustment only makes sense after the load and structural checks pass.
